Katlego Maboe was released from his duties as Expresso presenter on S3 in 2020 following abuse allegations leveled against him by his girlfriend Monique Muller.
He not only lost out on his presenting gig but he also got fired as an Old Mutual presenter for their adverts and also lost out on bookings as he dabbles in music as well.
After attending numerous court cases and being slapped with a retraining order, Katlego slowly started picking up the pieces. Little did anyone know that on August 8, Katlego would be back on our small screens doing what he does best.
"Breaking News! #KatIsBack! @KatlegoMaboe will return as a presenter on the Expresso Morning Show on Monday, 8 August," the show tweeted.
As per their statement, SABC 3 revealed the reason for his reinstatement, highlighting that the court absolved all allegations against him. They also revealed that Katlego will be interviewed by co-host Graeme Richards and he will be talking about his life over the past years.
"On his big return next Monday, Katlego will be in conversation with Graeme Richards in what promises to be an emotional sit-down as Katlego unpacks the challenging journey he has been on over the past two years and how he got back to himself," the statement reads in part.
In the statement, Katlego also spoke about having mixed emotions over his reinstatement on the show.
“It truly is difficult to put into words what I feel at the moment – being back to the place I called home for a decade. I’m filled with so much gratitude for all those who have been supportive and encouraging throughout this journey and I’m looking forward to having the opportunity, once again, to help an incredible team deliver an inspiring show to our people,” he said as quoted by the statement.
He also thanked his supporters for sticking by him even when the world was against him.
“I’m a mixture of tingling nerves and childlike excitement at the thought of the first ‘Good morning!’ and I hope that when all is said and done, I would have done everyone proud. Thank you all.”
Cardova TV MD, Patience Stevens, said although they saw it fit to have Katlego back, they firmly stand against GBV but are happy that he proved himself innocent in court.
“Domestic violence is a serious problem in our society, and one which Cardova as a company stands strongly against. We are relieved that the legal process has run its course and that Katlego has cleared himself in court of such allegations. He is a rare talent and we are very happy to be welcoming him back to Expresso,” she was quoted as saying.
S3 also chimed in on the matter, “S3 has always viewed the allegations levelled against Mr Maboe in a serious light and we are delighted that the courts have exonerated him and he can now return to the Expresso family as the host of the show,” said Pat Van Heerden who is Head of Channel.
