In 2020, Katlego suffered devastating reputational damage resulting in a loss of professional livelihood. This follows after Monique accused him of infidelity and domestic abuse. The TV host was axed with immediate effect from both OUTsurance and the Expresso Morning show.
The ex-couple hogged the news headlines after Katlego was exposed in a video that went viral, for cheating on his spouse with his colleague and friend Nikita Murray. Monique alleged that Katlego infected her with an STD that prevented her from falling pregnant.
In a statement that Katlego released via social media, he admitted to cheating on his ex but vehemently denied any abuse allegations. "I was unfaithful to my partner during a very important time of our lives - an act I regret to this day. We are currently undergoing an unfortunate and painful separation which is being resolved through legal proceedings. As you can imagine, separations are quite a difficult thing to deal with, especially with a child involved."
He further said "In light of the comments made against me, I would like to state that I have never abused my partner. I have always and will always stand up against the abuse of women and children - in fact, the abuse of anyone for that matter," said Katlego.
Following the saga, Monique filed a protection order against him. After a long-drawn-out legal battle that lasted for a few months now, Katlego has been cleared by the Magistrate Court of misconduct allegations made by Mulller in October 2021.
The court has agreed with the submission of a Point in Limine from Mr Maboe's legal team, ruling that there were no grounds for obtaining the protection order. Furthermore it has not made a finding of acts of domestic violence that were perpetrated against Monica by Katlego.
Katlego has welcomed the ruling, calling it monumental “The most important thing to me is the wellbeing of my son and fortunately things have settled into a routine for him after being put through such a terrible and lengthy process,” Katlego said before thanking his family and friends for their support," he said.
Katlego plans to continue with the defamation suits he has commenced against other parties, including the SAFTAs.
