The record label released a statement last night after reports emerged that the Ngeke hitmaker is admitted to King Edward Hospital in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
“The star affectionately known as Mampintsha from multi-award winning group Big Nuz has suffered a minor stroke a week ago upon return from a performance with Big Nuz. He is currently in hospital receiving medical attention and us under doctors observation,” read part of the statement.
The star's family has pleaded for prayers as he recovers and asked for privacy during this difficult time. “The family asks that the public and media respect their privacy during this difficult time. We ask that you keep him in your prayers. Afrotainment wishes him a speedy recovery and we cannot wait to see him rock our stages again,” Afrotainment further said.
Mampintsha's sister Pinki Maphumulo told Daily Sun that they were supposed to do a ritual for him but Mampintsh did not show up. Instead, they slaughter the goat and ate it.
"When we arrived he looked very sick. His speech was very affected. He told us that he consulted with a sangoma and was told to do (amagobongo) traditional ceremony," Pinki told the outlet.
'He asked us to buy a goat and get impepho, so he could perform the ritual. We went back home and did exactly that. But he never arrived. Instead, he told us to perform the ritual without him. We were surprised by this., but couldn't do anything. As a result, we slaughtered the goat and ate it. But we did not burn impepho," she said.
Pinki said they are worried about the star's health and they feel sidelined by their daughter in law Babes Wodumo and her family. "Days later we learned that he had suffered a stroke and he was admitted to hospital. Again we contacted Babes and her family, but we were told not to worry about him because everything is fine. We know he's very sick but we are being sidelined again and there is nothing we can do. We are worried and scared that something bad might happen to him."
Mampinstha's fans have flooded social media with messages of prayer and well wishes.
