eTV’s latest drama series, Durban Gen, is scheduled to premiere on the channel on Monday, 5 October 2020 and will be broadcast every weekday at 18:30. The medical drama has created buzz in the television industry, as it is produced by Stained Glass TV who are responsible for Mzansi’s number one soapie, Uzalo.

According to eTV, Durban Gen is set at the  most prominent and recognizable academic public hospital, which is found in the township of Newlands East, in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The hospital is said to be well-known for its prestigious doctors, which all patients are literally dying to be treatment by!

The storyline will follow Mbali Mthethwa, a newbie doctor who has joined the hospital in her final year of community service. Leaving her fiancé behind, she will be torn between two men, her sweet heart, Sbusiso Dlamini and her superior, Dr Lindelani Zulu, who is a surgeon at Durban General.

eTV stated, “On arrival at Durban General Hospital, Mbali assists in a precarious surgery that goes horribly wrong, resulting in the death of an MEC. The incident plummets the hospital, Mbali, and Dr. Lindelani Zulu, into the middle of an investigation that threatens to derail her career before it has even begun. Meanwhile, her proximity to Dr. Zulu, the resulting intimacy, and their palpable chemistry threaten to break everything Mbali has built back home with Sbusiso.”

Stained Glass TV is known for their choice to bring in new actors into the industry, as in the case of Nay Maps, Wiseman Mncube and Gugu Gumede. According to eTV, the medical drama will also be introducing new faces to the entertainment industry, staying true to Stained Glass TV’s mission.

“Taking the character of Mbali into her acting prowess is actress and feisty songstress Nelisiwe Sibiya. Her character's fiancé, Sibusiso, is played by actor, dancer, and singer Ntando Mncube. Her love triangle is completed by Mike Ndlangamandla, who plays the dashing Dr. Lindelani Zulu. Meshack Mavuso will play Dr.Thabo Dlamini, Durban General's head of Surgery, and the Chief in charge is portrayed by Duduzile Ngcobo, who will be playing Dr. Nomalanga Qwabe.”
