eTV's Isipho canned

The show has been given a chop after low ratings.

eTV's popular drama series Isipho, has been canned without a warning to fans due to low ratings. 

The decision to pull the plug on the show was an amicable one after it failed to attract advertisers. 

The show, which boasts a star-studded cast including Nimrod Nkosi, Saint Seseli, Thobani Nzuza and Karabo Maseko, aired its last episode on December 19 leaving fans feeling like a deer in the headlights. 

Isipho is a fictional tale that follows a group of young people with supernatural powers who are recruited to an Academy where they are taught to use their gifts for the betterment of the world. 

According to a press release, a mutual decision to conclude production on the drama series was a strategic business one and was reached amicably by all parties involved.

The show was commissioned in July and become a household name for eTV's viewers however it failed to take off with ratings.

“This has been an amazing and breath-taking journey for us as independent local producers. The opportunity to tell stories that uplift South African audiences and create employment for South African families is our mission,” executive producers Herbert Hadebe and Busisiwe Ntintili said in a joint statement.

“This fantastic experience has given us, as young companies, great courage to continue with the vision of upskilling our people and contributing to the growth of our film and television industry. Thank you, for the opportunity. We will do it again in the near future."

Fans of the series flooded Twitter with comments about whether the show would return or whether it is the end of the road for it

The channel and both production houses extended their heartfelt gratitude to the entire cast and crew of Isipho for their excellent craft.
