The Basadi In Music Awards are excited to announce media personalities Nomuzi “Moozlie” Mabena and Anele “Ney the Bae” Zondo as hosts of this inaugural recognition of women in music. The glittering ceremony will be held on 15 October 2022 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.
Moozlie’s journey in the limelight began with her MTV Base VJ Search win in 2012 which saw her interview local and international superstars including Khuli Chana, DBanj and Snoop Dogg. She has since carved a solid name for herself in the music and fashion spaces. The rap artist, reality tv star and fashion maven, who recently turned 30, is nominated in the Rap/Hip Hop Artist of the Year category.
Similarly, Anele Zondo, known popularly as “Ney the Bae” began her foray in entertainment as a television presenter and actress before venturing into music. Her journey began as an MTV Base VJ Search finalist before later anchoring Channel O’s flagship music programme Massive Music alongside Smash Africa and Lalla Hirayama. It is for her contribution to the show that she is nominated in the Music TV Presenter of the Year category. She is also an actress best known for her role as Faith in The River and for climbing charts with her debut number one single Ingwe featuring Given Zulu.
Dubbed the new “Face of Beauty”, stylist, model and gender non-conforming advocate Tshiamo Modisane will interact with your favourite women in music and provide commentary from the BIMA red carpet. This while “Chipi ya Pitori” Mandisa Jakavula, known best as Mandz.Not.Hot, will act as the evening’s backstage host. The digital creator is expected to bring a unique element to the awards.
The Basadi in Music Awards will present awards across categories as voted by the public. The awards are themed “tiaras, ballgowns and sneakers” and “suits and sneakers” for female and male attendees respectively. Tickets can be bought through www.webtickets.co.za or at Pick n Pay at R400 for General tickets, R650 for Golden Circle tickets and R1000 for VIP tickets.
“As the voice of destination Johannesburg, I’d like to express how exciting it is for us to be involved in supporting and promoting the inaugural Basadi in Music Awards,” says Lumka Dlomo, Destination Marketing Manager at Joburg Tourism.
“In anticipation of regional and domestic visitors who are expected to travel to Johannesburg to attend the award ceremony, hosting the event in Joburg will boost our local economy and help reignite the City’s tourism and creative industries which have been hard so hit by the COVID-19 global pandemic over the past two years. This includes many sectors - from accommodation establishments and tourist attractions to restaurants, shopping and transport to mention but a few,” explains Dlomo.
“Moreover, our support aligns perfectly with our strategic objective of positioning Johannesburg as a diverse and vibrant, international leisure and lifestyle destination – a phenomenal hub for music, fashion and the arts. It’s a prime opportunity to promote our city to festivalgoers and remind them that there is SO much more to Joburg than business!”
BIMA CEO Hloni Modise-Matau: “Being that this is our first Basadi in Music Awards we wanted the hosts to be fun, fearless forces much like the women who will be acknowledged on the night. The team is incredibly excited for MOOZLIE and Anele to dazzle our audiences and of course for Tshiamo and Mandz who will provide compelling red carpet and backstage content. I hope that tickets will be bought in their numbers and that the public will join us in celebrating the remarkable contributions made by women to the music industry.”
