Sir Trill is one of the best Amapiano vocalists in the game. While Samthing Soweto is considered as the pioneer of Amapiano male vocalists through his early collaborations with Scorpion Kings’ Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa.

Samthing Soweto was not necessarily considered an Amapiano vocalist considering that the soulful musician got his big break as part of the Acapella group, The Soil. In came Sir Trill as early as 2020 with the collaborative single John Wick with De Mthuda which propelled him immediately to becoming a household name.

Through his own success, Sir Trill made it possible for other male vocalists to come up in the Amapiano space, arguably. More specifically, male vocalists who could hold on a note or sing-rap on a beat. This was different from the hollering and profanities which were previously synonymous with the House-music sub-genre.

Considering just how much this genre has been saturated with more male vocalists since Sir Trill. His contribution in this esteem is sometimes forgotten. A fact which Sir Trill wants to have addressed.

Following the October release of his debut album, Ghost, Sir Trill proved just how much of a bankable name he is in terms of streams. This is all as an independent artist, who has seemingly burnt bridges with the major key players or “gatekeepers,” depending on who you are asking, of Amapiano.

Sir Trill defies alleged gatekeeping odds with debut album

The suggestions that Sir Trill is allegedly on the outs with Phori, Kabza de Small, De Mthuda and other “pioneers” in the House sub-genre lends itself to the passion in which controversial podcaster MacG has dragged Phori for filth.

If you think about it, MacG, who is currently riding on an Amapiano high through the lead single Nkantin which is led by Sir Trill  from his EP Songs I Put My Name On. It would make sense why MacG is so passionate and speaks with his whole chest about how DJ Maphorisa is a gatekeeper, who without their approval no one can release Amapiano successfully locally and internationally.

But Sir Trill has defied the odds with the release of his debut album Ghost. Released on Friday, 28 October 2022, the album proved to be one of the most anticipated albums of 2022. This is as in less than 6 hours following its availability on Spotify alone, it had amassed over 1.54 million listens. A number which only grew throughout the day as his name topped the trends list and has remained there.

Now the social media recluse took to social media to affirm that he was the pioneer within Amapiano and is asking for his credit. This is as he has been pitted against his cousin, DaliWonga, due to their similar tones and stylistic choices in music, which given that they grew up in the same township is understandable.
More than asking for his flowers, Sir Trill, also showcased that he continues to give back where he can as he plans to introduce and support upcoming artists with his upcoming birthday concert taking place later this week,
