While he was there he saw a beautiful fridge and enquired about its price. The sales lady said it cost a whopping R940 000 rand to which Somizi quiped with: "Does it come with food?"

Clearly Somgaga is not about to fork out a million rand on a frigde but he did part with R20 000 for the kettle and toaster.

Somizi has been showcasing his culinary skills on his social media pages for a number of years and the visual display has graduated into a television show produced during South Africa’s first Lockdown in 2020.

The cooking show titled ‘Dinner at Somizi’s,’ which premiered around 10 July 2020 on DStv’s 1Magic enjoyed great success trending almost every week. The show sees Somizi cooking for his celebrity guests as they indulge in interesting topics and is currently available on Showmax.

Following the success of the tv show, and due to popular demand, Somizi’s cookbook became highly anticipated. It comes as no surprise that Mzansi showed the book, incredible love, by nearly breaking the internet and knocking the pre-sales orders out of the park.

As of 02 January 2021, Dinner at Somizi’s – I Am Not A Chef has been reported as the highest-selling book in the food and drink category 29 November 2020 – 02 January 2021 in South Africa according to CNA’s audited report. The book has beaten Somizi’s culinary role model, Jamie Oliver to the number one position.

When putting this cookbook together I really wanted to create something truly authentic and special for my fans. I wanted to show South Africans how easy it is to add “pizzazz” to everyday meals,” says Somizi.

Somizi's reality show is currently surrounded by controversy as Hastings Moeng is not backing down without a fight against Somizi Mhlongo, Barleader TV & Multichoice.  Hastings served the three parties with summons on December 30 2019 for allegedly stealing his idea for Dinner At Somizi's.

The news was revealed by Author Eusebius McKaiser on Twitter who wrote, "Somizi Mhlongo, Barleader TV & Multichoice have had summons served today on behalf of Hastings Moeng seeking "reasonable compensation" plus "15% interest" as the alleged originator of the concept Dinner With Somizi."

"Moeng wants the court to declare his verbal contract as valid & binding (supported by email evidence that it exists); wants the court to declare the concept underpinning Somizi's show as Moeng's brainchild & wants the court to direct "reasonable compensation" to be given to Moeng plus rights to contract future seasons etc."

Congratulations Somgaga.
