The triple Grammy award-winning gospel group Soweto Gospel Choir is mourning the passing of one of the choir members Sipokazi SK Nxumalo.

According to Daily Sun, Sipokazi succumbed to the cardiac arrest earlier this week.

The internationally renowned choir shared the sad news on their Instagram page.

"Soweto Gospel Choir, family, friends, and fans, are saddened by the sudden loss of our own. Sipokazi SK Nxumalo has gone to be with the Lord. Soweto Gospel Choir sends hearty condolences to everyone who lived with, loved, and shared life with SK. She is already missed and it will be so for a very long time...Let the song speak of the great moments and talent she shared with the Soweto Gospel Choir and the world. Rest in memories Sk."

Fans have since paid their tribute to the late Sipokazi. @focus_acapella wrote: "sad news indeed, deepest condolences @sowetogospelchoirlive the family and fans at large, be comforted."

Soweto Gospel Choir Leader Shimmy Jiyane told Daily Sun that she was one of the founding members of the choir.

"We started the choir with her. She was one of the founding members. Sipokazi was one of the strongest members and an anchor for the choir.

"When we think about the things she did for the music industry, South Africa, the choir, and everything she did for the Lord, it breaks our hearts that she is now gone."


The late Sipokazi's sister also told the paper that it is hard for them. she said they are trying to be strong for her children.

"We are not coping, she meant a lot to s and we are taking it one step at a time. We are trying to be strong for her kids, she has two sons."

Sipokazi will be late to rest tomorrow, 21 August.

The choir recently announced that it has launched the Kickstarter campaign and was looking for donations. The choir also have a new album called 'Hope'

The choir also shared in April that the pandemic has affected the choir's work. They said they were happy to be back on stage.

"It’s been a little over a year since the unpleasant visit by the COVID-19 pandemic in South Africa. Since then, life has not been the same. Opportunities to be on stage were put on halt “WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT” (as our President would say 😆).

"However, this unpleasant visit has never stopped Soweto Gospel Choir from having the joys and pleasures of our creativity.
Being back on stage for our virtual audience is uplifting."
