Thami took his last breath at the Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria last Thursday.
Family members, friends and fans remembered the Sthandwa singer in song and heartfelt messages. Thami’s mother, Mantombi Buthelezi, penned a letter to her son. She thanked him for being the breadwinner and for taking care of her and his siblings.
“You were my friend and you took care of your siblings. I will forever praise God for giving me a son like you. Go well my son. Heaven has gained an angel. Rest well. I love you,” she wrote in the letter.
One of Thami’s friends, Themba Humana, used part of his address to call out Gallo Records; calling on them to pay the musician’s royalties to his struggling family – this, according to TshisaLIVE
He claimed that Thami was unhappy at the label and wanted out, but was allegedly told he had to pay “between R350k – R500k” if he wanted to leave.
Humana further accused Gallo Records of ignoring messages that were sent out to notifying the label of his Thami’s hospitalisation , yet were first to report on his death.
However, when General manager of Gallo, Rob Cowling, was contacted by TshisaLIVE to comment on the claims, he denied them. He said that the company’s representative spent the whole day of Thursday “lending support and assistance to the family”. He further stated that the label and Thami had reached an agreement after the artist requested to leave.
