The new telenovela set to replace Mzansi Magic's The Queen is rumored to be already in financial ruins. While still shooting, the new TV series Gqeberha The Empire has managed to draw people's attention with its questionable finances.

Following the announcement that Mzansi Magic's favorite TV series is coming to an end. Another telenovela will soon takes it place as well as slot on Mzansi Magic. However, during it filming and shooting stages, the new telenovela, currently shooting in the Eastern Cape's Port Elizabeth, now known as Gqeberha, is rumored to be swimming in financial difficulties.
Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela has revealed that Gqeberha The Empire is embroiled in financial drama ahead of even debuting on our television screens.
"NEWS: Drama on production of new telenovela Qhebhera The Empire, which will replace The Queen, is rumoured to be embroiled in financial drama. Actors pay delayed. Sources inform me the show is budgeted at R86-million, and partly funded by Eastern Cape govt" wrote entertainment commentator Phil MphelaFans are already worried about Gqeberha The Empire as well as any other new South African telenovelas that runs the similar story line. However, with the rumored financial difficulties, fans are already blaming the Eastern Cape Government which is partially funding the series.
"Why is Tshedza an established production house needing funding from the Eastern Cape? @PhilMphela please get into your detective bag and just explain the "behind-the-scenes" part of the South African film industry. Our thespians are never receiving their royalties!!!" wrote Kurrulenko"Shooting on location is expensive. R80m is not a lot for the 200+ telenovela have to put out. I suppose the EC govt funding forms part of the province’s plan to promote the city as a production destination. It’s been done with other shows and provinces.
