The
Wife is a Showmax original series, the first of a kind, that began airing in
November 2021 and quickly became a viewers’ favourite because of its storyline, characters,
and cast.
The show is based on Dudu Busani-Dube’s bestselling novel Hlomu The Wife and is
currently in its second season.

Mbalenhle Mavimbela (Hlomu)

The leading role
of Hlomu in The Wife is played by the lovely and talented Mbalenhle Mavimbela. Hlomu
is a young investigative journalist who falls in love with a taxi driver.
Born in January 1997, Mavimbela has at a young age already made a mark for herself in the
film industry and besides playing Hlomu The Wife, she has also appeared in other popular
shows including e.TV’s Isipho as Tandzile, Skeem Saam as Nothile and
Durban Gen as Nthandi.
Kay Sibiya (Sandile)

Sandile is a doctor on The Wife and is Hlomu’s unhappy fiance. Hlomu was living under the same roof as Sandile when she met Mqhele.
The role of Sandile is played by Khumbulani "Kay" Sibiya. The handsome television
heartthrob was born in 1988 in Durban and has had roles on popular series like
Imbewu, Generations and Uzalo.
Kay Sibiya is in a relationship with a DJ/makeup artist Judie Kama and together they have a
beautiful daughter.
Lindah Majola (Langa)

In The Wife, Lindah Majola plays the role of Hlomu’s fun twin brother- Langa who is always there to pick up Hlomu when things go wrong for her.
Lindah Majola is a Tik Tok star and an aspiring restauranteur who is also openly gay. The
25-year-old actor’s role in The Wife was his big acting break.
Kabelo Moalusi (Lux)

Lux is the Editor in Chief in Hlomu’s office as well as her boss. He is very dedicated to his job and not the most likable person in the office.
The role of lux is played by Kabelo Moalusi who has also made an appearance on other shows
including The Queen, Generations, and The Throne.
Kabelo Moalusi was born in 1984 in Kagiso, Gauteng and has a twin called Keabetswe.
Thuli Phongolo (Lerato)

Also known as Thuli P, Thulisile Phongolo plays the role of Hlomu’s colleague and friend- Lerato in The Wife.
Thuli P is a 28-year-old actress who has had roles in Generations: The Legacy, and
Rockville. She is also a deejay.
Although this gorgeous actress has been time and again linked
to DJ Maphorisa and the internet widely believes that the two are an item, Thuli P
has denied all the allegations.
Bonko Khoza (Mqhele)

Mqhele is one of the Zulu brothers in The Wife. He comes off as a loving family man but he has a different side of him that you wouldn’t want to be up against especially if you are in the way of what he wants.
The role of Mqhele is played by the talented Bonko Khoza who was also in the Emmy-nominated
show Roots and Professionals.
Mondli Makhoba (Nkosana)

Nkosana is the eldest of the Zulu brothers on The Wife who becomes the head of the family after their parents are killed.
The role of Nkosana is played by Mondlu Makhoba who has appeared in a number of shows and
films including Umkhokha and Imbewu.
Abdul Khoza (Nqoba)

In The Wife, the talented Abdul Khoza brings the character of Nqoba alive and his performance on the show as the rash brother has been described by some as perfect casting.
Abdul Khoza is a SAFTA winner who has had roles in shows like Kings of Joburg and
Isibiya. Besides acting, Abdul is also a writer, a musician, a martial artist, a
stunt coordinator and an MC.
Kwenzo Ngcobo (Qhawe)
Qhawe is the sweetest of the Zulu brothers and he is also the strategist in the family. He is the first one to spot and fall in love with Hlomu but doesn’t make a move on her.
Qhawe’s character is played by Kwenzo Ngcobo who is known for his roles on Freedom
Street, Saloon, and Room 33, but his major breakout role on The
Wife.

beautiful and controversial mother of one has had a number of leading roles in several shows
including Netflix’s Young, Famous, and African.
