When season 14 of Idols SA came to an end last Sunday, loyal viewers of the show presumed that the winner, Yanga Sobetwa would be a circular artist.
However, Yanga Sobetwa took a lot of us by surprise when she announced that her music career will primarily be about psalms and worship. It is quite unusual for a musician as young as she is to be so certain about her preferred music of choice. The entertainment industry has a reputation of moulding naive musicians to follow the norm, as opposed to carving their own sound in the exciting world of music.
According to TshisaLive, the 17-year-old musician wants to create gospel music to inspire the youth. Yanga was a fan favourite from the word go, therefore, we are confident that she will have a flourishing career. Other former Idols SA contestants who have gone on to carve successful careers in the gospel arena include Khaya Mthethwa and Mmatema Moremi.
Yanga gained quite a number of fans during the singing competition. Here are some of the reactions from her fans.
