South African singer Toya Delazy has ignited a new wave of online discussion after saying she was racially targeted while passing through London’s Gatwick Airport.
Delazy posted an intense, emotional video to Instagram—later removed—claiming that airport staff treated her unfairly even though her belongings were checked during routine security screening and no issues were reportedly found.
“I’m at the airport, and once again I’ve been profiled,” Delazy says in one of the clips.
“Yeah, I put through my bags like everybody else, they got checked, nothing was found wrong, and then the guy started.”
When airport staff told her to stop recording, Delazy refused. She said she wanted viewers back home to see what she believes was discriminatory conduct.
“No, this is for support because everyone in Africa must see what you’re doing to Africans here,” she added.
Delazy also directly accused a named official, alleging that he left after taking her passport.
“Jason, don’t run away! He’s running away now, and he took my passport. I’m waiting here, and nothing happened. So I’ve called my friends to come and help me. Once again, I’ve been profiled, and now I’m at Gatwick Airport. Guys, I don’t do this on purpose.”
In a separate clip, the musician pleaded for assistance as officials continued to instruct her to stop filming.
“I need help. You’re not allowed to film in here. I need help. You’re not allowed to film. I need help, guys. I’m a black woman at Gatwick Airport. I need help. I need help, I need help, I need help.”
She continued, “No, I’m not switching off anything because then what are you going to do? Sir, I’ve been profiled. I need help, not attack. I have. He’s stolen my passport. He’s stolen my passport. Why has he taken my passport when there’s nothing else? I don’t know why. No, but you need to go deal with him and not shout at me.”
At the time of publication, Gatwick Airport and the relevant UK authorities had not issued a public response to Delazy’s claims, and the events described have not been independently confirmed.
Another recent headline around Delazy’s orbit also circulated online, including chatter about Tyla’s “manifestation” theme as she received her own Bratz doll.
