Uzalo has experienced a drop in viewership but interestingly, it is still one of the biggest shows in the country.
Even after the loss of over 390 000 viewers, Uzalo still remains the most-watched soapie in the country as per the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa.
After doing extensive research in December they found that the figures which were sitting at 10 072 999 last year November, were now sitting at 9 676 966. It was rumoured last year that the popular telenovela would come to an abrupt end because of contractual issues.
The Broadcast Research Council also released some more figures on some of the popular shows that broadcast weekly. It revealed that SABC 3 was not doing too well as none of its shows had reached a million viewers.
Isidingo being the most-watched soapie on the channel currently sits at 780 561, suffering a massive drop of 155 656 viewers. There are just a few weeks until the soapie's final episode airs; their contract was not renewed because of the low viewership.
The most-watched shows include Generations The Legacy, which has a little fewer viewers than Uzalo with 8 226 692. eTV's Scandal is at number 3 with 4 746 430 followed by SABC 2's Muvhango with 4 666 633 viewers every night.
The Queen still remains the most watched telenovela on DSTV with 1 265 214 viewers.
According to Zandile Nkonyeni from the SABC, new and exciting shows will be introduced this year. Now there's something to look forward to!
