A day does not go by that a woman is not reported dead or physically abused by her significant other. Cases of domestic violence and femicide continue to increase in South Africa and sadly, nothing much is being done to protect women.
House music songstress, Bucie Nkomo is the latest ZAleb to unfortunately face the ordeal of abuse. It is reported that the singer was allegedly assaulted by her husband, Nhlanhla Nkomo, at their home in September.
Daily Sun reports that a misunderstanding ensued after Nhlanhla went through the singer's phone. It is further reported that a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) was opened by the Easy To Love singer At a police station in Honeydew.
Bucie was contacted for a comment, however, she opted that questions be sent to her via email instead but had not replied when the story was published.
According to her police statement: “Victim Busisiwe Nqwiliso alleged that on 25 September at about 9.40pm she was at her house in Helderkruin, Roodepoort, and was with her husband, Nhlanhla.

“He came to the other bedroom and grabbed her cellphone from her hand. He went through her cellphone and then went out of the bedroom. She followed him and asked for her cellphone. He then slapped her on the face and she pushed him down the stairs.
“He came back and continued to assault her with an open hand. He hit her with a fist on her face and on the head. The victim has no visible injuries.”
