A couple of days ago, Caster Semenya joined the Nike Advert campaign that has caused a bit of a stir for supporting athletes who stand for something. The athlete joins the likes of US athletes, Serena Williams and Colin Kaepernick, who like her, have experienced discrimination in their sports careers.

Nike recently launched new running shoes and Semenya endorsed the label. Just like Serena Williams,  Caster Semenya has also faced discrimination about her femininity and gender.

Taking to Twitter, Semenya shared a clip of her ad.

“Too fast? Too bad. I was born to do this. #justdoit,” she wrote in part.

Mirroring each other, both adverts show the athletes in their international competitions and flashback videos of their younger selves. Showing the beginning and rise of the two-star athletes.

Caster Semenya’s advert ends with the line, “When you are born to do it, just do it,” and that of Serena Williams ends with, “Its only crazy until you do it, just do it."

Semenya won a gold medal in the women's 800 metres at the 2009 World Championships with a time of 1:55.45 and at the 2017 World Championships in her new personal best time of 1:55.16. Semenya also won the silver medal at the 2011 World Championships in the 800 metres amongst others.
