Moshe Ndiki Talks Sexual Health In The Gay Community

Aug 22, 2019, 07:45 AM

Moshe Ndiki is doing his bit to educate people, especially those in the gay community, about safe sex.

The Metro FM radio presenter took to Instagram to share an important message with his 400 000 plus followers about how they can ensure better sexual health.

He discussed HIV-prevention measures they can take – one of them being the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (Prep).

Prep is a drug that helps prevent diseases such as HIV in people who have not yet bee exposed to the virus.

Moshe, who is currently dating Phelo Bala, says anyone can take the medication but it is especially beneficial for gay and bisexual men.

“In SA, it is recommended for people who are in high-risk groups, which include gay, bisexual... men,” he said in the video.

Moshe added gay men often don’t seek out sexual health services out of fear of being discriminated against.

“I know how it is being at these health centres in our country…Prep is also recommended for men who have sex with HIV [positive] people or those] engaging in sex work. Essentially, it is for anyone who is sexually involved and doesn't want to put themselves at risk.”

He also cleared up confusion between Prep and Pep.

“Prep you take it before exposure to HIV and Pep you take it after – which is post-exposure.”

Moshe’s talk about sexual health is part of a campaign started by the Engage Men’s Health clinic, which offers a safe environment for gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (MSN) to get access to sexual health services.
