The entertainment industry is known to be a fickle industry, and practitioners are always complaining about how unstable the industry is in terms of pay and getting jobs.
This week with the announcement of lockdown by President Cyril Ramaphosa, things hit the fan for many creatives, who cannot secure the bag from gigs and events, since gatherings of more than 100 people have been prohibited.
This has been described as a major blow for practitioners in the industry. Some have vented out their frustrations about how they will struggle to pay their bonds and cars.
This prompted the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa, to convene a sector meeting with the creatives today. The meeting was aimed at discussing issues faced by creatives.
On the meeting, the Minister announced that he will allocate R150 million to the sector to provide much-needed relief. Since events have been postponed also, they will create programmes such as live streams, to make sure that artists entertain their legions of fans during the lockdown period.
