The 8th Installment of Major League Gardens returns this Saturday and they’ve decided to go all white to mark the occasion.
Whether you’ve lost count of how many times you’ve been there or you’re going for the first time, our guide is ESSENTIAL to your survival.
Pick your outfit ahead of time:
The theme is all white but the venue can get dusty which makes things tricky so unless you’re hella with the laundry, you might have to buy an outfit you won’t miss if it gets dirty. The same goes for the shoes. We know you want to look fresh but just buy a cheap pair you won’t miss. They WILL be getting stepped on.
Get there early or in the middle of the day:
Things are bound to be less busy at these times. Getting there early will allow you to pick good parking, a great place to sit and a spot at the front of the queue which means you won’t be stuck behind hundreds of people as they make their way into the venue.
Get your tickets BEFORE you go:
Tickets will not be sold at the venue so get them at the accredited retailers before you head to the venue to avoid disappointment.
If you’re not driving, start the party early:
Major League Gardens is an all day event and with the recent increase in sin tax and sugar tax by finance minister Pravin Gordhan, good times don’t come cheap. Whether you drink vodka, whiskey, sprite or Oros, it’s best to start the party before you go to the venue. No cooler boxes are allowed so you can’t stock up at Tops and pitch up with your own bottles.
Eat ahead of time:
There will be vendors selling food all throughout the day but you don’t know what your day is going to be like so plan a lunch or brunch with your squad before hand and fill up. Speaking of filling up, budget for petrol money for the designated driver or budget for an Uber, don’t be those friends that just jump in the car and say “let’s go!”
Cars don’t run on friendship bazalwane.
Don’t take too much with you:
Unfortunately, there are people who go these events just to pickpocket people so don’t take too many things with you (it’s less admin) and watch your stuff!
Save your energy for your favourite acts:
The line up is always crazy good so unless you’re 18 years old, you can’t go through the whole day giving each and every act 100% of your energy.
This is not the running order for the performances, just a heads up of who will be there:
First up is Legendary artist Kabelo “Bouga Luv” who will headline as the ThrowBack artist. He will be joined by the dons: Riky Rick, AKA, OkmalumKoolKat, Da LES and Cassper Nyovest. The dons will headline alongside the Leaders of the New School: Kwesta, Nasty C, Nadia Nakai, DuBoiz, A Reece, Nomuzi, Anatii and Gemini Major.
Those acts will be joined by: Babes Wodumo, Stilo Magolide, Sjava, Frank Casino, Tshego, Yung Swiss, King Monada, and KLY.
In between all these performers will be sets by DJ’s such as Major League Djz, Black Motion, Maphorisa, Milkshake, Shimza, Speedsta, Sizwe Dhlomo, DJ Capital, Distruction Boyz, Moflava, Dr Peppa, DJ Sandiso, Twins on Deck, Sumbody and Mr X.
Hype Gang (a duo made up of Tol Ass Mo and Carpo) and Scoop Makhatini will host the show at different intervals of the day.
