France great Thierry Henry has said Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane fully merited winning the 2026 Ballon d’Or after the England captain collected the prize on Monday evening. Kane prevailed over strong contenders Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe following a season in which he scored 73 times for club and country. He has finished as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer in each of the past three campaigns and was also Europe’s highest-scoring player in club football in 2025-26. “I will always support my French compatriots, but I need to say something about Harry Kane,” Henry said to DAZN. “I have watched him from the start. He had to endure a lot to reach what he has achieved. He is a deserving winner — congratulations.”
