Ntsiki Mazwai, age 41 was born on 3rd September 1980 in Pimville, Soweto. She is the daughter of two of the most renowned writers of the South African history of revolution. Belede Mazwai, her mother, was a military journalist who made game-changing contributions to the newsprint industry. On the other hand, Dr Thami, Ntsiki Mazwai’s father, was the editor of the Sowetan. 

Ntsiki Mazwai’s family also consists of her two sisters, Thandiswa and Nomsa Mazwai. Thandiswa Mazwai, Ntsiki Mazwai’s elder sister, was born in 1976 and is a professional musician who is also the lead vocalist and songwriter of Bongo Maffin, an award-winning Johannesburg music group created in 1996. Ntsiki Mazwai and her sister Thandiswa have always had each other’s back. They’ve demonstrated this when either one of them has had to face public criticism. 

However, things are quite tense with her younger sister Nomsa Mazwai. Nomsa, like her, is a talented and well-respected singer and composer in South Africa who is known for her work with the Alternative and Indie genres. This may be the cause of the excessive sibling rivalry that we have seen between Nomsa and Ntsiki Mazwai. 

The sibling rivalry runs deeper than most expect. There have been physical fights between the two. Nomsa said Ntsiki Mazwai, who went to the same school as her, was a protective big sister. However, she also acted as her principal and would keep watch on every move that Nomsa made. According to Nomsa, her sister Ntsiki Mazwai was a tattletale, and nothing got past her. 

Schooling

Ntsiki Mazwai completed her primary and secondary education in Soweto, South Africa. On completing her school years, she chose to study at Institute of Marketing Management (IMM) and secured a Diploma in Marketing. 

In 2002, Ntsiki Mazwai found her passion for music and claims to be an underground musician while still attending classes and studying in college. 

Later Ntsiki Mazwai enrolled in the University of Witwatersrand, popularly known as Wits University and completed a course in entrepreneurship and New Creations at the Wits Business School in 2014. 

She further went on to enrol herself into a Masters in Creative Writing at Rhodes University in South Africa. She graduated with a CumLaude

Career 

Ntsiki Mazwai has been in the music industry for close to 20 years. She started as an undercover artist while still in college. She is known for her unique blend of creativity and vocal skills that have brought Ntsiki Mazwai her fan following. 

Ntsiki Mazwai released her debut song “Light Up My Life” in 2004. Her fans received the song well. It was so popular that she also included it in her second volume of the 2013 music album, Sgubhu Sa Mampela released by DJ Fresh. 

Her first solo musical album was released in 2007, titled Ma Miya. Some of the other popular albums released by her are:

Ntsiki Mazwai is never far away from controversy. She rubbed Twitter users the wrong way after she took aim on comedian’s Trevor Noah’s newly purchased house. Some twitter users claimed that she was just jealous of him. In her post, she said that she is afraid to live in a big house alone with no family to share the property with. She further questioned whether black people could achieve the amount of wealth that Trevor Noah has. 

Trevor bought a mansion at the exclusive Los Angeles Bel-Air where the who’s who of America live. The house has six bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and the usual features that accompany a luxurious real estate. 

In July 2021, Ntsiki Mazwai was also blamed for the violence that rocked South Africa. She was suspected of being part of the elite group that encouraged people to take to the streets and demand Jacob Zuma be released from prison. 

Unlike some people who use their influence and fame only for their selfish desires, Ntsiki Mazwai has been known to speak up for those who need her the most. She has chosen to raise her voice against sexual abuse. Through Twitter, Ntsiki Mazwai’s sent out several tweets with advice on how rape victims can stand up for themselves and report the rape. 

Ntsiki Mazwai has also taken aim at Mohale Motaung and has gone on to say that he acts richer than he really is. 

Ntsiki Mazwai also tried to aim her jabs at rapper Priddy Ugly. However, it looks like she met her match as the rapper was not dismayed by her words. On the contrary, he decided that it was time someone showed her place.
