Sindi entered a talent competition titled A Shell Road Fame when she was 12 years old. She got to the finals but didn’t win. 

Nonetheless, this got her foot into the door. Sindi received mentorship from Mahotella Queens, a member of the famous South African band, Mbhaqanga.

This followed another significant move for her budding career. In 1988, she auditioned for Mbongeni Ngema’s Sarafina and got selected. 

Dlathu was cast as the understudy of the lead character in the stage version of Sarafina. She worked alongside Hollywood actress Whoopi Goldberg in the screen version and was commissioned as an assistant choreographer to Michael Peters. 

After touring the US between 1988 and 1990, Sindi returned to school and completed her university studies in 1996. 

The following year, she was in the FNB Vita Award-winning Game where she performed with Mary Twala, Abigail Kubeka, and Nomhle Nkonyeni. 

What could be bigger than sharing a stage with Whoopi Goldberg in the much-loved Sarafina? Believe it or not, Sindi Dlathu moved on to even bigger things. 

In 1997, when she was only 17 years old, Sindi made her debut on Muvhango. She played the role of Nomthandazo “Thandaza” Buthelezi. 

Over the years, her role in Muvhango advanced from that of a minor character to the main cast. Her participation in the play has earned her fame. With its many ups and downs, Sindi has stayed loyal to it. She once said; 

"Muvhango has become my second home. I share the joys and lows of my life with this soapie - it's pure bliss." 

This is why her decision to leave wasn’t an easy one. However, she explains how she knew it was time to move on from Muvhango.

With the experience Sindi Dlathu has gathered over the years, she held a Master Class in Botswana in 2017 to up-skill young actors in the field. Several aspiring actors were invited to showcase their talent.

Sindi Dlathu joined the cast of The River as soon as she left Muvhango. She played a leading role as Lindiwe Dikana, a diamond mining magnate who possesses a very expensive diamond found in Cullinan. 

Lindiwe is smart, a woman who thinks on her feet and will go to any lengths to defend herself, her family, and her lavish lifestyle. 

The River's first season was an instant hit. Sindi caught all of Mzansi’s attention as Lindiwe, particularly when she tried to bury her biological daughter, Tumi, alive. 

In 2021, Sindi Dlathu exited the scene of The River after a lot of speculation about her role. She was offered a behind-the-scenes role, to be part of the production team as the co-executive producer, but seems like she didn't take up the offer.
