We all feel it, the loss and heaviness that has rocked Mzanzi this year is a lot to deal with and the entertainment industry has been affected in such a huge way. Along the way we have lost some of our most loved ZAlebs and therefore this article will highlight and honor celebs who unfortunately died in 2021.
Menzi Ngubane
On the 13th of March 2021 we lost Menzi Ngubane. Most of us fell in love with him from the days when he played Sbusiso Dlomo on the hit soapie Generations. He continued to win us over with his wit and skill even when he moved on from the show and went on to portray other villainous characters. Unfortunately, Menzi had been battling a recurring illness for several years that even led to him receiving a kidney transplant. The legendary actor lost his battle and died from a stroke.
Shona Ferguson
The demon that is the corona virus has taken so much from us. We have lost jobs, meaningful ways to connect with our loved and friends, livelihoods, life as we knew it and our sanity. However the biggest thing the pandemic robbed us of was the lives of our loved ones. Millions across the world unfortunately succumbed and lost their battle to the disease.
Shona Ferguson was one of these people and died on the 30th of July 2021.
Killer Kau & Mpura
Just when they were at the height of their careers and taking the industry by storm, the amapiano stars Mpura and Killer Kau tragically died in a car accident on the 9th of August 2021. These young artists were on their way to a performance in the Northwest when fate decided to add them to the list of celebs who died in 2021. Their death was a loss to the amapiano fraternity and to the music industry as a whole.
Naledi Willers
The Real Housewives Of Johannesburg star and all round sweetheart, Naledi Willers, is another celeb who died in 2021. The media personality was married to Naked DJ and in addition to entertaining us on screen, Naledi was also a model, advocate and a breast cancer awareness champion. She battled with the illness on and off however lost the battle and died on the 8th of December 2021.
Desmond Tutu
Described by many as South Africa’s moral campus, Archbishop Desmond Tutu died on the 26th of December 2021. Desmond Tutu played a pivotal role in the history of the country and was an anti apartheid activist who was on the front-line when it came to fighting for black empowerment in SA.
Although these are the six we have highlighted, there were many other celebs who died in 2021. Mzanzi lost legends such as award-winning actresses Lindiwe Ndlovu and Sindi Buthelezi, Tsha Tsha star Noxolo Maqashalala, gospel musician Israel Mosehlaand the fabulous Shaleen Surtie-Richards. Our hearts are sore and go out to their families and loved ones.
