SA Hip Hop Breaks Down
We are saddened by the passing of the international superstar Earl Summons who was popularly known by his stage name DMX, together with the rest of the world we are mourning his death.

The 50-year-old rapper’s death was officially announced late yesterday despite the #ripdmx that has been trending since the early morning of yesterday.

A family member who shared the news of his passing told TMZ: “We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end.”
TMZ also reported that the family asked for privacy as they grieve the passing of their loved one: “He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle, and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized, the statement read.

DMX was admitted to hospital on Friday last week after he suffered a drug overdose which triggered a heart attack.

He has been struggling with substance abuse for many years. However, in 2011 he told TMZ that he has let go of cocaine: “Everyone was taking advantage of me with my finances, trying to put me in the direction to fail. I have 10 kids. I have to drive them in the right direction, so I let the cocaine go,” he told the publication.

DMX shot to fame in the early 90s. In 1992 he got his first major-label deal with Colombia Records subsidiary label Ruffhouse which helped him release his first album titled ‘Born Loser.’
