South African tweeps are standing behind rapper AKA after his tweets with Nigerian musician, YCee, trended last night.

In case you missed it (we forgive you, alot has happened on these Twitter streets) AKA was raked over the coals on Tuesday after his old tweets re-merged of him innocently teasing the Nigerian soccer team after SA lost to them in the Afcon quarter finals earlier this year.

What was meant to be playful banter between Supa Mega and his African brothers turned into a full-on attack on social media.

It all started when Nigerian star YCee claimed that AKA was ‘jealous’ of his country after the latter's aforementioned tweets came to light. From there YCee accused AKA in a Twitter thread of being of being xenophobic too, in light of the spate of attacks that have happened in Jozi.

Things escalated very quickly when fellow Nigerian stars Peruzzo, Skales and Davido amoungst many others chimed in to the conversation, or should we say twar.

Enter Burna Boy - AKA's longtime friend and collaborator on songs like Baddest and All Eyes On Me - who, in a series of tweets, expressed his disgust at both AKA and South Africa

He even went as far as to threaten AKA with physical violence

Burnaboy was on a mission and even threatened to cancel fellow Nigerian rapper MI Abaga who defended AKA.

AKA, never one to back down in a war of words, stood his ground and retaliated in a series of tweets that only further upset his Nigerian colleagues

He also revealed that he had received death threats from Nigerian fans too for his bold choice of words

And it whilst the drama continues to unfold on the timelines, South African are praising the rapper for standing his ground.
Others have ridiculed other SA stars for not having AKA’s back:
But AKA has shut down all the praise and has called for peace in the wakes of the social media spats and insists that there is should never be any animosity between the African countries.
One love fam, we are all #OneAfrica!
