Tv presenter and rapper Boitumelo “Boity” Thulo has received backlash about the prices of her alcohol. Following in the footsteps of other female celebrities who are already making their marks in the alcohol business such as Khanyi Mbau, Bonang Matheba, Kelly Khumalo, and DJ Zinhle, Boity recently announced her new alcohol business venture BT Signature.

Announcing her power move last month, she posted a picture of herself sipping on her BT Signature and a few pictures of the beverage with a caption: “We are our ancestors wildest dreams. Introducing the new kid on the block #BTSignature. Get yourself a bottle of BT Signature at all. it’s peachy, it’s sparkling, it’s oh so tasty, and we’ve got a nan alcoholic version too for the next four days,”
“What a time to be alive! I am so honored to introduce you to y'all, my new baby! Introducing our new favorite drink. #BTSignature is about to bring peach fun to every occasion. And it's brought to you by yours truly,” she added.
However, tweeps were shocked to learn the prices of her products and quickly called her out. Her 24 pack is R600. @Huupo tweeted: “Boity called us unemployed roaches and now she expects us to buy a 24 pack of nonalcoholic drinks ka 600? Lmao what kind of drugs do these celebrities smoke?”
@Youtuber Nomaswazi tweeted: “Boity's one is coming off a bit weird. She's outpriced herself from her competitors and is selling BT at Shoprite which isn't for premium consumers. The best celebrity drink is Bonang's sparkling wine can. Fresh packaging, the drink slaps and is the same price as a sparkling wine.”
@MrsNoma was among the few who were not shocked by the prices, she said Boity does not owe anyone cheap alcohol, she tweeted: “So for 6 pack ya BT signature = R149 and 6 pack ya Ice Tropez ke R309... And I know some of you drink Tropez... never complained about its pricing... I think we must leave Boity alone with her pricing... she does not owe us cheap alcohol.”
Boity has also caught some heat from other celebrities following her alcohol launch. Ntsiki is a recent celebrity to come for Boity sideways, earlier this week she tweeted: “All your celebs have booze but no educational degree.”
Boity clearly caught the wind as she responded to Ntsiki with a simple “cheers”

AKA also threw some jabs at Boity. He tweeted: “Any SA celebrity with an alcohol product, you’re welcome. I single handily built this industry and that’s facts”
