DJ Cleo seems to have further damaged his relationship with his father, Sam Monyepao. This comes after the DJ, who was accused of neglecting the old man, claimed that his father was mentally unstable.
In a recent interview with Noeleen Maholwana-Sangqu on 3 Talk, Cleo explained: "I don’t mean it in a bad way. I mean there’s different levels of mental illness, his is at the very low scale but he’s not entirely stable."
Sam was recorded on tape expressing his disappointment in the mega star last year. But Cleo said on the show: "Even though it’s on video. It's like he [Sam] doesn’t remember what he said, so I understand because he is my dad and I have forgiven him. I know he didn’t mean to do any harm. We’ve since taken him for a mental assessment..."
But Sam has fired back. In an interview with Sunday Sun, the old man said: "I was actually watching him on 3 Talk while he was saying those things about me. I want to tell people that he was lying through his teeth. He always lies to his sister, saying he always calls me and sometimes visits me."
He added that his situation is still the same as last year. "No Father’s Day gifts or wishes, no Christmas gifts from him. I wonder if he will prosper in his new venture of being a soccer agent. I'm not mentally ill, and he has now insulted me on national TV."
DJ Cleo's sister Lerato Monyepao told the paper: “I don’t know him like that [Cleo] – because he’s respectful. I’m lost for words and just disappointed. My dad's not mentally ill!"
The DJ reportedly couldn't be reached for comment.
