Highest paid South African Instagrammer of 2019, Mihlali Ndamse posted her latest make-up tutorial video on her popular YouTube channel, Mihlali N. The make-up tutorial video was in promotion of the latest season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK that recently started airing on BBC Brit TV on DSTV. Following the beauty posting the video, like clock-work, Mihlali started trending but for all the wrong reasons.
No stranger to trending on Twitter, Mihlali was dragged for her drag transformation. Many of the comments trolling the beauty were from Twitter users claiming that her transformation was, well… underwhelming.

As part of her introduction to the make-up tutorial video Mihlali explains that her her look was inspired Cheryl Hole, who was one of the fan favourites of season 1 of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. Mihlali’s look was inspired by the drag queen’s first look on the popular show.
While initial comments dragged Mihlali, her fans came to her defence by highlighting why always trending is good for her brand. Firstly, that her name trending on social media meant that the video would receive more views on her channel. Secondly, that Mihlali is still “getting her bag” during the lockdown. And lastly, that her drag queen transformation might have not landed, but the star is still beautiful.
