”Petty Penny” Takes Digs At DJ Fresh

Penny Lebyane is a veteran broadcaster who started in the industry while it was largely male-dominated. More especially the radio scene as she started with the likes of Phat Joe, Thomas “Bad Boy T” Msengane, and Rude Boy Paul. This was during the height of Y.FM days when each radio jock was a household name.

As such, it came as no surprise that her relationship with Thato and Thato star turned broadcasting veteran Thato “DJ Fresh” Sikwane garnered as much attention as it did. However, their romance quickly turned ugly after DJ Fresh allegedly all but denied dating her after he met his now ex-wife Thabiso.

Since then there has been a narrative that Penny is a “scorned woman” as she has shared her allegations about being blackballed after her relationship ended and had seemingly gone through “mourning” the end of that relationship.

Moreover, with the continuous suggestions of DJ Fresh, his philandering ways, and allegations of sexual misconduct throughout the years. Lebyane has not been able to shake off the affiliation no matter how hard she tries. A fact which has recently seen her see the light side of the matter as she decided to be “Petty Penny.”

“Petty Penny” takes digs at DJ Fresh

During a recent Twitter Space which was hosted by Phile Mphela discussing the current state of local entertainment. A number of our favourite ZAlebs were in “attendance.” Unfortunately or fortunately, Penny Lebyane and DJ Fresh both happened to be tuned in as speakers during the session.

In came “Petty Penny” as she screenshot their names next to each other and asked her followers if should she say anything.

Yooo life is too short for me to not laugh through things and being spicy is a good release.

But even before she could get an answer from her followers, it seems that DJ Fresh also noticed that he was in the same Twitter Space as Lenyane and opted to leave the session.

He’s gone now so l can speak freely..

His exit was a fact that Lebyane loved to highlight as it seemed to affirm her stance on DJ Fresh’s comfort in using her name but never addressing her directly. This is in light of DJ Fresh’s latest headlining story when he alleged that Lebyane owed him and Euphonik over R60k after losing their legal battle, which was reported as:

Penny, this morning, took to Twitter to say she has not paid DJ Fresh a cent and will not waste her money. She also said she was not referring to any DJ in particular when she said those tweets and that she dated a lot of DJs in the past.

“I didn’t pay anyone anything. Not a cent. I don’t have money to waste. 1st l was not a responded in case. I filed to ask the court why my trading name Penny Lebyane is in paragraph 15 of an affidavit, which the response was it was a Mistake but l must pay for asking. I refused.

But that won’t be mentioned because it’s nothing to gloat about. I will stand in my truth as l always have. I just wish he would “Keep My Name Out Of His Mouth” and stop policing my Lived Experience and centering himself. I have had so many DJ Boyfriends honestly l have,” she said in the tweets.
