Issues around an iPhone that belonged to Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot dead by her boyfriend Oscar Pistorius in February, have emerged after it was discovered that the phones data had been encrypted.
The iPhone was found in the bloody bathroom where Reeva had locked herself in before Oscar shot her four times. The phone is said to contain “volumes of encrypted data” that need to be decoded in order for the investigation to continue.
According to reports from News 24 the data from the other phones has successfully been downloaded, except for Reeva’s phone.
A source told News 24 that they had serious concerns as to why the phone had been encrypted, as the phone might hold crucial information revealing SMSs or final calls made by Reeva.
It was also reported that an IT specialist has advised the police to get in contact with Apple in order to assist them with decrypting the data from the iPhone.
