South African artist, Riky Rick might know a thing or two about this. The award-winning rapper was on SABC 3’s late night talk show, Trending SA, when he revealed that he holds a different view about the utterances he made during his acceptance speech at the 2017 Metro FM Awards.
In the infamous speech, the rapper said:
“Shout out to all the kids that can’t get on radio, that can’t play their song on radio because they don’t have enough money. Shout out to all the kids that put out music videos that never get their music videos played on TV because they don’t have the money…”
“I’ve got a habit of speaking, sometimes, at the wrong time. Like saying the right thing at the wrong time. So, obviously there was backlash, a lot of it, you know. But that’s something you’ve got to deal with… I’ve got friends at that specific station and I felt like I disrespected the relationship that I had with those friends and those people that supported me throughout my career.”
Though he regrets having pulled this stunt on that platform, the Boss Zonke hitmaker remains firm about the red tape chronicles that most artists have to go through in order to have their music playlisted on radio.
