In 2021 Mzansi saw one of its biggest relationship scandals between Somizi Mhlongo and his estranged husband Mohale Motaung.
Now, as the country has been whipped up into a boxing frenzy following the legendary boxing match between Cassper Nyovest and Slik Talk, tweeps think that fighting is the best way for issues to be resolved is with a fight. They are now pushing for Somizi and Mohale to get in the ring – no pun intended – and settle their issues “like men”.
The two have been throwing shade at each other for the better part of the year. Earlier this year, when Somizi was asked about Mohale, he said he considered him “dead”. Like, Mohale ceased to exist for him, and to him, his former lover might as well be deceased. Ouch!
The drama came shortly after the radio presenter accused Somizi of domestic violence. Speaking about their rocky marriage, Mohale said that Somizi has been physically abusive, and had also brought up some proclivities in the bedroom that he did not feel comfortable with, which further added the strain to their relationship.
However, even in the middle of the passive aggressive punches they have been throwing at each other, the two have kept away from each other entirely since their marriage disintegrated. They have managed to avoid each other in public, which we think has been for the best. After all, with the words that have been flying around, we can tell that it’s all ice there, and a public meeting would not go very well.
Social media users, however, think differently. They believe that the exact opposite is what is needed for them. As with Slik Talk and Cass, there is a lot of underlying disrespect between the two – you can tell from the shade they throw at each other – so perhaps fighting is a way for them to let out their pent up anger and frustration, and finally earn each other’s respect.
It is also possible that people just want to see Somizi fight. There was an interestingly large number of people rooting for Somizi to get in the ring, with anyone really. At first it was Cassper, then it was Lasizwe, then finally Mohale. We get the sense that people think he looks like he would be a surprisingly great boxer, and they are yearning for a chance for him to prove them right.
Somizi has been minding his business, though. He stays booked and busy, and he has been on a birthday tour, having a marvelous time. Frankly, he deserves to spoil himself and have some fun after the busy year he has had. He is doing amazing, and we love to see it.
