Outraged tweeps trolled Somizi Mhlongo when news broke that he is a panelist for an Anele Mdoda produced show, The Masked Singer South Africa. Mzansi expressed their disapproval over Somizi being all over our television screens especially where singing is concerned. The Masked Singer sees Somizi Mhlongo 'investigating' alongside J Something, Sithelo Shozi and Skhumba Hlophe on the SABC 3 international franchise.

The team had a press conference this week where Somizi reveals that he anticipated the outraged which ensued on social media but told the naysayers to not tune in.

“The first thing when the news goes out, people are going to say 'Ah Somizi again judging' and we are not judging, I think they'll get a pleasant surprise to understand that this is not a singing competition like any other. We are not judges, we are panellists, we are exactly what the audience is, we are just given the voices. But we are exactly what the audience experience,” he said.

“I've been myself from day one, and I would never change anything for anything or for anyone, so if you are tired of me, then switch," said Somizi.

Som Som said he is authentically him and would never change himself for anything, "What makes me to be where I am today is my authenticity. I find it very sad for people to always adjust based on where they are. I am not a chameleon. Somizi has always been this, you'll see Somizi at a different show but he will still be Somizi.”

During the press conference, Sithelo Shozi also had a few words especially for those people who are not too pleased with her being casted.

“Other than my three pregnancies, this has been the hardest secret to keep,” she joked. “It's been so hard to keep the secret, but it's all been worth it. The experience has been surreal, I still get chills when we go on stage. Someone who is sitting at home can expect something out of this world ... I love that I am going to enjoy it with my family, I love that I am going to enjoy it with my children,” she added.

“Everybody made me feel so comfortable, it felt like family. It's been so incredible to learn each and every day, I'm even learning so much about myself. I'm growing each and every day, which I am so grateful for.”

Somizi said there is a different side to her that people will get to see, “People have seen me on social media but a lot of people don't actually know me. They know my pictures and that's just about it, and what I've loved about this show is that it's also given me a platform to share who I really am. I actually do have something between these two ears — I don't just take pictures every day, I actually do speak.

“This is a really great way for people to actually learn more about me and see who I really am and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. This has been a great way for me to start. This is my first big gig and it's huge — and I started with the most amazing people.”
