In recent months, Zoleka shocked many of her followers when she revealed that her cancer had returned and this time she was given a terminal cancer diagnosis, which meant she was now living on borrowed time. Her message at the time had read:

“Yesterday (29.08.2022) marked my official diagnosis, the CT scan has revealed cancer both in my liver and lungs. I am yet to receive feedback regarding my Bone scan, to establish whether I have cancer beyond my ribs. I am hanging on by a thread.”

This came off the back of the first post where she had shared her initial fears of being diagnosed with terminal cancer following experiencing excruciating pain on her back and ribs. The post in question’s caption was a tearjerker as the mother of six relayed that:

“I have Bone Metastasis. I’ve just had my CT scan and awaiting my results, I don’t even have the words to articulate my thoughts and feelings, the words to describe how scared I am right now. What do I tell my children? How do I tell them that this time around, I may not get to live my life as a survivor? How do I tell them everything will be okay when it’s not? I’m dying … I don’t want to die.”

As she has come to terms with her terminal diagnosis, Zoleka took to Twitter to ask for advice over her remaining frozen eggs.

Zoleka Mandela set to donate her frozen eggs

Taking to Twitter recently, Zoleka Mandela posted a poll. This was to ask her followers advice as to what to do with the remaining frozen eggs she has. Her question comes off the back of realising that she will not be able to have anymore children naturally and given that her diagnosis was now terminal, having a child via surrogacy now would mean she would very likely not be able to take care or see them grow up.

While there were polarised opinions on whether she should store, discard or donate them anonymously. The final votes leaned towards her donating the eggs anonymously. A decision, which Zoleka did not address whether it was advice she would heed or she would decide differently.

In light of the concern that tweeps shared following the poll. This is as there was fear over the mental state of the When Hope Whispers author given the gravity of the poll. But she then took to social media the following day to share an image from the day she posted the poll just to show that she is still very much happy and in a good place with her health at the moment. A fact which her followers welcomed and continued to thank Zoleka for how much she has shared of her journey with cancer to date.
