eTV has finally confirmed that its gripping hospital drama series Durban Gen, will be coming to an end in January 2023.

Entertainment commentator/ blogger Phil Mphela, reported last week that the channel had decided to pull the plug on the show.
Viewers of the show were not pleased with the decision as they felt that the show had potential unlike other shows such as

Generations The Legacy and Uzalo. Others say the storyline was poorly researched and focused more on the love lives of the characters.

According to a statement from the channel, Durban Gen has been canceled as part of a business strategy which includes the on-going review of the on-air life-cycle of all our shows.

“The decision to decommission the daily drama is part of a business strategy which includes the on-going review of the on-air life-cycle of all our shows. e.tv continues to look forward to fulfilling its mandate of producing exceptional and relevant local content, and the production has successfully achieved its part of the obligation throughout the past 2 years. Durban Gen first aired in October 2020,” read the statement.

Over the past two years, Durban Gen has captivated viewers with its storyline. The show is set in the most recognized public hospital in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, which is located in Newlands East It is produced by Stained Glass TV, which also produces Uzalo and eHostela. It seems that the low viewership numbers and boring storyline recently have taken a toll on the producers.

In April it had 2.75 million viewers. Recently, the show hosted a lavish wedding for Sne, played by Nombulelo Mhlongo, and Dr Dhlomo,  played by Nyaniso Dzedze. The star-studded double-episode wedding special aired from the 14th – 15th of April.

In a statement the show said "On the big day, Dr Dhlomo (Nyaniso Dzedze) arranged for him and his fiancée to be driven to the wedding venue together in a luxury vehicle. But Sne changes her mind and arrives at the event before him, leaving a sour taste in the doctor’s mouth and resulting in him doing the unimaginable." The episode featured a performance by Vusi Nova, Musa Mseleku and his wife Thobile MaKhumalo Mselekus made an apparentace on the episode.

"@KaziiMtshali tweeted "Well this is very sad but not surprising at all. I feel like they had this good concept that they couldn't implement kahle. Stained Glass needs to invest in good writers and storyliners going forward bc this is the case with almost all their productions."

"@Sthe_Fuze tweeted "Finally, Durban Gen had a potential but yuuu the story line sucks, the actors are there.... Use them, take them out their comfort zone, give us something to look forward to aybo Durban Gen yangiphoxa maaan. I miss Rhythm City."

@@Mondli9290 tweeted "Haay poor research team especially medical issues it showed lack of researching,"
