The Scatterlings of Africa, Impi and Asimbonanga are just some of the memorable and heartwarming songs that many across the globe would probably remember Jonathan Johnny Clegg by.

The South African music fraternity is mourning the loss of Johnny Clegg. The iconic and futuristic musician has bowed out from the scatterlings of earth after a three year long battle with pancreatic cancer at age 66. He died peacefully at his home.

Johnny Clegg is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jenny Clegg and children, one of which is also a well accomplished rock musician - Jesse Clegg.

The Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa took some time to share words of encouragement on Twitter.

Johnny Clegg gained notoriety for breaking the mould in terms of his approach to the thought provoking content in his music.
Though he had gotten into trouble back in the apartheid era, the horrendous system failed to dent his spirit and quest for addressing social issues through his music.

Also he will be remembered by the way he gracefully embraced other genres and cultures found in South Africa, such as Maskandi and the Zulu culture that broadened his reach and impact.

Details of his memorial service and funeral have not been made public as yet.

Johnny Clegg has made an inedible in the world of music. His impact will live on forever.
