Back like it never ended 1Magic's telenovela ‘The River’ brings more undiluted drama this season five.

The new season started us off with the most anticipated wedding we thought we were not getting in the previous season. Mabutho played by Thembinkosi Mthembu and Nomonde played by Linda Mtoba’s  finally tied a knot in the first episode.  We remember the couple falling in love in season 4 and Mabutho lying about being a rich business man, turned out Nomonde loved him enough to sleep in a shack.
We all know the telenovela's weddings are not just weddings; there is always a hot spicy dish to serve.  It is for that reason the wedding ended with the biggest plot twist of the decade.  What did Mabutho do to Zweli (Hlomla Dandala)?  We don’t want to spoil your fun in case you haven’t watched, but let me advise you to quickly go catch it up because Mabutho has a bleeding Zweli on a bathroom floor and Nomonde knocking at the door.

The wedding was lit we agree, but not as lit as Lindiwe aka ‘Umadla bantu’ played by the award winning Sindi Dlathu. Let just say in the previous season udle (ate) uMohumi played by former Generations and The Republic actor Seputla Sebogodi. That is how the season ended with the bang as Lindiwe   helped by Tsotsi film star Presley Chweneyagae eliminated a common enemy Mohumi, by making him swim in a crocodile-infested river.
Viewers better be glued in their screen because season five did not come to play. Well if you thought the drama was over wait until you watch the released Zolani played by Big Bother Mzansi’s presenter Lawrence Maleka search for his wife Emma ( Lunathi Mampofu). The same wife he killed a man for and  went to jail. The only problem, Emma is nowhere to be seen.

The telenovela’s creators Phathu Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon have won numerous awards. Other awards included Best Achievement in Original Music/Score, Best Achievement in Editing by editors Ula Oelsen, Bongi Malefo and Matodzi Nemungad, Best Achievement in Cinematography by Gaopie Kabe and Trevor Brown and Best Achievement in Art Direction.  The achievements are not including the actor’s awards who are constantly winning whenever nominated.

It is safe to say the telenovela has been serving us fresh storyline. Maybe 'The Queen' might have a few things to learn from the soap. It is no secret that the telenovela has been dragged recently on social media for repeating same story line.

Commenting on the new season the fans took it to Twitter to discuss how Zweli and Lindiwe are so natural and unique. The viewer said their scenes are so effortless with the same consistency since season 1, They deserve another award.

"I’m so excited about this season. It’s gone up another level. Higher we go #TheRiver1Magic."
We are excited together with the fans. We cannot wait to see what the new season unpacks for us.
