Unbeaten runs stretched further on Day 3 of the 3rd CGC Volleyball Premier League (First Phase) in Abuja, with CNS Spikers, Nigeria Customs Service and COAS Spikers all continuing their dominance in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

Defending champions CNS Spikers rolled to a third straight victory in the men’s section, defeating Sunshine Spikers 25-15, 25-15, 25-17. After beginning the campaign with a five-set success against Defence Spikers, they followed up on Day 2 by sweeping Nigeria Correctional Service.

Nigeria Customs Service also maintained their perfect record, and head coach Adamu Jonah pointed to the work put in before the tournament as the foundation for their run.

“With the preparations we are always having, nothing short of impressive performance is expected of us,” Jonah said. “We take every game as it comes, and we appreciate the management for taking our matter seriously.”

COAS Spikers continued their momentum as well, making it four wins in a row. They accounted for NSCDC and Life Camp VC in straight sets after earlier triumphs over Kano Pillars and Offa VC. Assistant coach Segun Abinde described the NSCDC win as particularly satisfying.

“I am the happiest person, because it has been a long time that we have been looking for this particular team,” Abinde said. “We thank our fans and the management of COAS for the encouragement. We can’t do it alone without God.”

Abinde also stressed the importance of team cohesion. “We are fortunate to have this set of players. Relationship really matters. They respect us, and we do likewise.”

In other men’s matches, Nigeria Correctional Service bounced back from their Day 2 setback against CNS Spikers, beating Life Camp VC 3-1. Nigeria Police recorded their second win of the competition by defeating Ajase Ipo 3-1. Police head coach Taiwo Oladipupo said he was pleased with the progress of his side despite falling to a straight-set defeat to Customs earlier.

“We are taking the games one after the other. With two wins and a loss, I am satisfied — it’s a good result, and we lost to a good team,” Oladipupo said.

Kano Pillars returned to winning form, overcoming Offa VC 3-0.

The women’s category saw CNS Spikers continue their title defence in impressive fashion, matching their men’s form with a third straight win without conceding a set. They beat Benue Queens 3-0 after previous victories over Excelsior VC and Fire Service.

VIP & Partners responded after losing to Customs on Day 2, defeating Olalomi Royal Angels 3-0. NAF Rockets also won in straight sets against Excelsior VC.

Fire Service produced the standout result of the day, overturning a 2-1 deficit to defeat Anambra Queens 3-2 in a five-set thriller. COAS Spikers women extended their winning momentum too, beating Life Camp VC 3-0 after getting the better of NAF Rockets on Day 2.

With three days completed, CNS Spikers, Nigeria Customs Service and COAS Spikers have established themselves as the teams to beat in both divisions as the battle for playoff qualification intensifies in Abuja.
