Cyriel Dessers says he is determined to turn the page after a frustrating opening spell at Panathinaikos, with injuries restricting his involvement to just five matches in his first season in Greece.
Speaking about the setback, the Super Eagles forward admitted that the disruption has been hard to deal with. “It has been difficult, a season with many injuries. For the first time in my career, actually, so I had to get used to that,” Dessers said.
The striker now wants a much more productive campaign, stressing that his focus is on getting his body right and returning to peak form. “I am working extremely hard to be in top shape this season. Giving it my all, scoring goals, winning matches and lifting trophies. I expect to be in top shape by the start of the league in mid-August. Hopefully, I’ll already get some minutes in the European qualifiers before that.”
Dessers also insisted his next step is about more than personal improvement, pointing to the support he has received from the club and its supporters. “I want to repay the club and its supporters for their backing,” he said. “Especially because the club paid a nice transfer fee for me, I just want to give something back to them. For the fans too, of course. I received so much love from them, and it feels difficult that you can’t give that back.”
