DJ Speedsta and rapper Stilo Magolide have finally addressed the fallout from a viral showdown that sent both names shooting up social media trends. The dispute captured attention after footage surfaced of the pair clashing in Johannesburg following a recent public appearance.

The video shows Stilo appearing confrontational with Speedsta, with the rapper claiming he felt disrespected. He alleged that Speedsta sent insults via WhatsApp voice notes, while Speedsta tried to explain his side during the heated moment.

What Speedsta said on his podcast

On a sit-down episode of his podcast, Up To Speed with DJ Speedsta, the 5FM DJ broke down why he was shocked the clip made its way onto social platforms. Since the two are friends, he said it was unexpected to see the altercation discussed publicly, especially because he described it as a “personal issue.”

Speedsta also addressed the tone of the confrontation directly, telling Stilo that he wasn’t intimidated. However, he framed the difference between them as having more to lose, pointing to his responsibilities and personal life.

“I must tell you, Chocolate, I’m not scared of you, my brother. It’s that I have a lot to lose, you have absolutely nothing to lose, so that’s the difference between Chocolate and I,” Speedsta said.

He continued, referencing the idea of avoiding street-level conflict and explaining that his focus is on his future rather than escalation. Speedsta also said he has a young child and a stable home life that he wants to protect.

“The Vaal is not happy. A lot of people wanted to take this street, I said no. You know me very well, Choc, we could go street, but I don’t street anymore. Again, I have a lot to do, I’ve got a little baby girl, I’ve got a beautiful life.”

Speedsta added that he was in a vulnerable position at the time, standing with his girlfriend, Shamiso Mosaka. He asked that the matter be handled privately, insisting it shouldn’t have been turned into a spectacle online.

He also claimed Stilo knew exactly who he is, which he said was part of the reason things didn’t turn physical. Speedsta further warned that if anyone tried to “touch this face,” the confrontation would be addressed through legal avenues rather than brawling.

“He knows exactly who I am, that’s the reason he didn’t hit me. The Vaal is not happy. You know I’ve got some pit bulls to call, but I’m not going to play it like that. I’ll tell you, even when you see me, if you touch this face? My friend, [I’ll take you to] Kgosi Mampuru [Correctional Centre], I won’t fight you. There’s nothing to fight about. I’m not going to play games with you.”

Stilo responds and defends his stance

Stilo Magolide, who previously performed under the name Choc, later weighed in on the situation. Speaking to TshisaLIVE, he pushed back on the “pit bulls” framing, saying it is legally acceptable when it comes to court matters.

“Where the law is concerned, saying you have ‘pit bulls to call’ is admissible in court. I love the law but disrespect we don’t tolerate on this and like the video shows his phuza face wasn’t touched, ready for another drink or whatever, allegedly,” Stilo said.

He reiterated that if Speedsta described the situation as personal, then the expectation should be clear: no disrespect should be offered if it can’t be confronted directly. Stilo’s message was simple—address issues face-to-face, or don’t introduce them at all.

“If he said it’s personal, it’s correct. It’s simple – don’t disrespect me if you can’t say it to my face.”

While many online users speculated that Stilo may have been seeking attention, he said he wasn’t chasing views or clout. Instead, he described the confrontation as a matter of protecting his name and standing.

“To be honest, with the online attention, I didn’t care for it and have no interest in it. I told him when I met him that night, if you’re not going to address it now, I will see you at the event and ask the same questions. So it’s up to you, considering we are guests at this event, you can decide; there’s really nothing to it. It’s about respect. These days people are too comfortable spreading hate speech like it’s normal. Let’s normalise respect.”
