Nigeria Must Navigate Tough Groups as FIFA Reveals U-17 Women’s World Cup 2026

Sports

FIFA has carried out the draw for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, placing 24 qualified sides into six groups ahead of the finals in Morocco.

Hosts Morocco have been assigned to Group A alongside New Zealand, Germany and Argentina, forming one of the tournament’s most eye-catching pools. The competition is set to take place from October 17 to November 7, 2026.

Group B features Korea DPR, Puerto Rico, Poland and a representative from Africa that is still to be confirmed, marked as CAF 1. Group C is made up of Canada, Brazil, Norway and CAF 2. Japan, France, Venezuela and CAF 3 have been drawn into Group D.

In Group E, the United States will take on Samoa, China PR and CAF 4. Defending European champions Spain lead Group F, with Mexico, Chile and Australia completing the group.

Africa’s four guaranteed entrants are still undecided as the CAF qualifying race reaches its most critical stage. The opening matches of the final qualification round are scheduled for this weekend, with the return legs set for next week.

Nigeria’s Flamingos are still very much in the hunt for a spot at the tournament. They face Guinea in Côte d’Ivoire tomorrow before the decisive second leg in Ikenne the following weekend.

The Flamingos, who won bronze at the 2022 tournament in India, are looking to earn yet another appearance on the world stage, adding to Nigeria’s reputation for producing strong women’s youth teams.

FIFA is expected to publish the complete event timetable—covering venues and kick-off times—once all qualifying nations have been confirmed.
