Emtee Opens Up on Family Strain, Fame Pressure and Keeping Life Private

Celebrities

Emtee has sparked conversation online after sharing a run of raw, emotional updates on X (formerly Twitter), where he opened up about a difficult relationship with his family, the weight that comes with fame, and his wish to keep more of his life out of the public eye.

The rapper—known for speaking candidly with followers—said he doesn’t feel backed by his family when it comes to his music career. Over time, he explained that he’s learned to accept the lack of support rather than letting it consume him.

“My family don’t support my career. Never have and I’ve made peace with that. I still take care of em,” he wrote.

Emtee also vented about the constant attention that comes with being recognized, admitting that at times he wishes strangers would give him space.

“Sometimes I wish people would leave me alone. I’m very self-sufficient,” he added.

Elsewhere in the same series of posts, the award-winning artist pushed back on the idea that he fully identifies with the label of “celebrity,” saying he doesn’t view himself as a public figure in the traditional sense.

“I’m not a celebrity. I just happen to do this shit n I do it well,” he wrote.

He then returned to the emotional impact of feeling unsupported at home, while also pointing to the encouragement he receives from his supporters nationwide.

“The people closest to me treat like shit. Dats y I love and appreciate the support 🇿🇦 shows me,” he shared.

Since the posts went live, fans have responded in different ways. Some viewers expressed concern for Emtee, while others praised his honesty about family conflict and the mental strain that can come with life in the entertainment industry.
