Enugu Rangers Win 9th Crown Praised as Discipline, Vision Deliver Triumph

Enugu Rangers International FC’s historic ninth Nigeria Premier Football League crown has prompted widespread admiration, with Dr Ike Chioke hailing the triumph as the outcome of discipline, toughness and a collective drive to restore one of the country’s most respected football identities.

Chioke delivered his praise during a special dinner event in Lagos hosted by Afrinvest, held to mark Rangers’ commanding 2025/26 campaign. The Flying Antelopes finished first in the NPFL standings with 68 points from 38 matches, narrowly finishing ahead of Rivers United to secure the title for the second time in three seasons.

Speaking to guests, Chioke stressed the significance of the achievement: “Winning the Nigerian league once is hard. Winning it twice within three seasons is a statement. It reflects discipline, hard work, resilience, consistency and a deep belief.”

He went further than the usual celebration of a trophy, describing Rangers as more than a club. In his view, the team represents “history”, “identity” and the pride of millions of supporters across Nigeria and beyond.

Chioke also credited Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for recognizing football’s wider value as a tool for youth involvement, economic momentum and regional visibility when the sponsorship collaboration with Afrinvest began to take shape in 2023. Since then, Rangers have added two league titles in three seasons, a return on investment Chioke described as “vision meeting commitment.”

Turning to those directly involved in day-to-day progress, he commended Rangers General Manager Amobi Ezeaku for bringing professionalism and modern management frameworks that helped power the club’s renewed rise. Chioke then saved his warmest remarks for Head Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, whom he cited as the driving force behind Rangers’ successful push toward consecutive title challenges.

“In football, the decisive work is done on the training pitch—through preparation, tactical planning, man-management, and the ability to motivate players to trust themselves when the pressure is highest,” Chioke said. “To win two league titles in three seasons is a remarkable achievement, and Nigerian football should recognize the level of effort and quality he has brought to this team.”

Chioke further praised the squad for their largely unseen sacrifices throughout the season, arguing that championships are built through difficult moments, discipline and mental strength long before a final whistle confirms success. He added that the club’s supporters deserved equal credit for staying steadfast behind Rangers through both victories and difficult stretches.

While the dinner celebrated the past campaign, Chioke also used the platform to issue a wider call for Nigerian football to evolve. He suggested that Rangers’ success ought to act as a trigger for broader reform across the domestic game, urging clubs to become stronger institutions and leagues to move toward stronger commercial footing.

“Nigerian football must rise again. Our clubs must develop into stronger institutions. Our league must become more commercially attractive,” he said, pointing to the need for increased investment from the global market and upgraded stadium experiences that reflect the ambitions of clubs like Rangers.

He also addressed the next generation of players, warning that raw talent alone—without character and consistency—rarely lasts at the highest level of competition.

For Chioke and Afrinvest, Rangers’ ninth league title reinforces their belief that meaningful, well-directed investment in Nigerian football can produce results that are both tangible and enduring. With the trophy secured once more, the Flying Antelopes are now positioned to carry that drive back onto the continental stage.
