Frank Onyeka is expected to complete a permanent move to Coventry City at the close of the season after his loan spell with the Sky Blues proved both productive and pivotal in their push back to the top flight.
The Nigeria international joined Coventry on a six-month loan deal in February, seeking more consistent minutes after finding it difficult to establish himself in the starting XI at Brentford during the opening half of the campaign. Since arriving at the CBS Arena, Onyeka has featured 14 times in the Championship, with 13 of those appearances coming from the start, as Coventry powered through the division and captured the title, sealing promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years.
Under the terms of his temporary contract, the arrangement included an obligation to make the transfer permanent if Coventry achieved promotion. That trigger has now been activated, with the club believed to be in discussions with Onyeka over a three-year deal. Coventry are also reported to be set to pay Brentford £9 million to finalise the move on a long-term basis.
Onyeka, a product of the Midtjylland academy, spent four and a half seasons with Brentford, making 87 appearances for the club and scoring once—netting in a 2-0 victory over Sheffield United on 13 April 2024.
