The gathering, staged on June 7, combined seven professional bouts with additional amateur contests. Organisers said the card drew a sizable crowd of boxing followers eager to be part of what was presented as an advocacy-led event focused on peace and public awareness amid continuing insecurity.
Why the promotion carried an advocacy message
Ganiyu Oladayo, the CEO of Glorious Promotions, explained that the initiative was designed to harness sports as a tool for advocacy. He pointed to worsening insecurity and stressed that Nigeria needs a shared, collective response to help restore safety and calm across the country.
Voices from boxing officials and organisers
Hon. Gbenga Opaleye, Chairman of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) for Oyo State, said he was pleased with the professional contests. In his assessment, the boxers showed resolve, discipline and sportsmanship throughout the ring action.
Edna Aiyegbeni, Chairperson of the Oyo State Amateur Boxing Association (OSABA), praised the amateur fighters for their displays. She noted that the bouts served as proof of the depth of boxing talent in Oyo State, while also reinforcing how grassroots competition can help shape future champions.
Oladayo further thanked boxing stakeholders, spectators, match officials and security agencies for their backing, and he used the occasion to renew his appeal for an end to violence, killings and other harmful behaviours that continue to drive insecurity.
