Nigeria Men Dominate 4×100 Heat to Reach African Champs Final

Team Nigeria produced another encouraging performance on Day 3 of the ongoing CAA African Senior Athletics Championships, with the men’s 4x100m relay squad advancing to the final after taking control of their heat.

Favour Ashe, James Taiwo Emmanuel, Tejiri Godwin and Chidera Ezeakor powered their way to 38.77 seconds, winning the heat convincingly ahead of Namibia and Zimbabwe, who placed second and third respectively.

With sharp teamwork, smooth baton handovers and reliable top-end speed, the Nigerians sealed automatic qualification for the showpiece round, keeping their hopes of a podium finish firmly alive.

In Heat 2, Ghana’s foursome—Edwin Gadayi, Joseph Amoah, Ibrahim Fuseini and Saminu Abdul-Rasheed—won in 38.69 seconds. Botswana followed in second at 38.80, while Kenya completed the standings in third with 39.15.

Elsewhere, Emmanuel Ojeli just missed out on a spot in the men’s 400m final, though he delivered a performance that still drew positive attention at the championships.

Having contested only three individual 400m races this season, Ojeli set a new personal best of 45.49 seconds in Ghana, a mark that underlines his steady rise as the campaign moves forward.

Nigeria also secured representation in the women’s high jump final, with two developing athletes, Clergy Edet and Treasure Omosivwe, set to carry the country’s banner as they look to make their experience count.

With Day 4 now on the horizon, Team Nigeria’s focus turns to the men’s and women’s 4x100m relay finals, with expectations high that medals are within reach in both races.
