NNPCL Lifts Fuel Prices in Abuja After Dangote Refinery Rate Increase

Business

Nigerian fuel prices have inched higher after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited revised its premium motor spirit rates following an increase at Dangote Refinery. Retailers in Abuja adjusted their pump prices after the refinery raised its gantry charge, pushing costs up for motorists across the capital.

Quick facts

  • NNPCL raised its premium motor spirit pump price to N1,364 per liter from N1,295 in Abuja and nearby areas.
  • The increase is N69 per liter.
  • New prices were rolled out at NNPCL stations including Gwarimpa, Kubwa Expressway, Wuse Zone 6, and Zone 4.
  • Other Abuja stations, including MRS and BOVAS, were seen selling petrol at N1,365–N1,370 per liter.
  • Dangote Refinery increased its gantry price by N75 to N1,275 per liter from N1,200, citing crude trading above $115 per barrel.

A market check in Abuja on Thursday showed that NNPCL outlets in and around the city have moved their petrol rates to N1,364 per liter from N1,295. The adjustment amounts to a hike of N69 per liter for consumers.

The updated pricing was put in place at multiple NNPCL locations, including stations at Gwarimpa, along the Kubwa Expressway, in Wuse Zone 6, and at Zone 4. In each area, the change reflected the higher downstream input costs tied to Dangote’s decision to raise its gantry pricing.

At one of the facilities, a pump attendant said the company updated its rate to N1,364 per liter from N1,295 earlier that day. The statement pointed to the direct pass-through of refinery-level changes to retail forecourts.

In parallel, independent stations in Abuja also lifted prices. Several outlets—including MRS, BOVAS, and other retailers—were observed selling petrol at levels ranging from N1,365 to N1,370 per liter.

Earlier in the week, Dangote Refinery raised its fuel gantry price on Wednesday by N75 to N1,275 per liter from N1,200. The move was linked to an increase in crude oil prices, which have risen to above $115 per barrel, tightening margins and raising the cost base for fuel supply chains.
