Veteran DJ, producer, and music entrepreneur Oskido is celebrating after being handed one of South Africa’s highest civilian honours by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Taking to social media shortly after the ceremony, the kwaito trailblazer shared a reflective message thanking the people who have supported him across a long career, following his appointment to the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver. The award was presented during the National Orders Investiture Ceremony on 19 May 2026.

More than a week after receiving the recognition, Oskido returned to his online platform to express further gratitude to his supporters and to acknowledge how the journey has been shared.

“To God be the glory. 🙏🏽 Thank you for walking this journey with me. This honour belongs to all of us,” he wrote.

The honour is being recognized for Oskido’s lasting impact on South African music, including his efforts to open doors for younger artists. In the official citation, his work was highlighted for expanding opportunities for emerging talent, describing the move as an extension of his own rise and influence as a DJ, record producer, entrepreneur, and kwaito pioneer.

Widely viewed as one of the architects of modern South African music, Oskido is credited with helping shape the kwaito movement and later establishing himself as a major force in developing new performers through Kalawa Jazmee Records.

Under the label, a number of prominent careers were launched and nurtured, including those of Mafikizolo, Boom Shaka, and Black Coffee.

After the investiture ceremony, Oskido also stressed that the milestone was never meant to be seen as a solo accomplishment. He dedicated the honour to other pioneers who helped lay the groundwork for kwaito as well as the broader South African music industry.
