Senegal coach Pape Thiaw has been dismissed following the team’s exit from the World Cup last 32, with the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) confirming the decision.
In a statement, the FSF said that after a meeting of its executive committee, it moved to begin steps to remove national team coach Pape Thiaw and the entire coaching staff from their roles.
The federation added that FSF president Abdoulaye Fall will hold a press conference later today to outline the “reasons behind this decision” and to discuss what comes next for the national team.
Thiaw, who is 45 and a former Senegal international, was appointed as head coach in 2024.
His departure follows a World Cup campaign that failed to meet expectations. Senegal, known as the Lions of Teranga, lost two matches in the group stage—against France and Norway—before a 5-0 win over Iraq earned them a place in the knockout phase.
Senegal’s run ended in the round of 32 when they were eliminated by Belgium, falling 3-2 after extra time. The setback came despite Senegal leading 2-0 up until the 86th minute.
During Thiaw’s tenure, Senegal lifted the Africa Cup of Nations title in January. However, they were later stripped of the crown as punishment for walking off the pitch during the highly chaotic final against Morocco.
